Crossing the Finish Line with Photography

Well, I'm FINALLY done with this semester! And what a kick in the pants it has been! So, my final photo project was originally based on songs by Thrice but then I added 2 Jack Johnson songs... definitely a lot of contrast between the 2. For those of you who know Steve-You'll enjoy these pics. Well, here's what I turned in-

Thrice - All That's Left

Thrice - Artist In The Ambulance

Thrice - Identity Crisis

Jack Johnson - It's All Understood

Thrice - Melting Point of Wax

Thrice - The Red Death

Thrice - See You In the Shallows

Jack Johnson - Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

Thrice - So Strange I Remember You

Thrice - To Awake and Avenge the Dead

Going Out with a Flash!

Wow, the semester is finally coming to an end. At one point I didn't think it would be possible. Well, I just wanted to update my last project for Graphic Interface Design. This flash site was built for my band. It's not exactly how I would like the end product to be... but it's getting there. So, here is the very beginning of this process--what the hell was I thinking?

Then I started boxing stuff up...

But as my teacher pointed out... it was too lame. I needed to break a little out of the box. After all, this is a FLASH site! So, here's what I came up with--much better.

Here's the bios section. Look at Paul with his sweet mohawk--what a bad ass! Not so much anymore... sorry Paul if you're reading this.. Just a note--the plane with the bombs was something I've always wanted to use but could never get it to look good. Well, I've gotten a little better with Photoshop this semester (thanks to my digi photo class) and used some nice blends that made it work with out being too overpowering. I'm pretty happy with the design.

Oh, and here is the dog tag I used to make the buttons. Then I photoshoped the crap out of it.

Anywho, that's it! Feel free to check out the real site at http://fall09-2.graphicinterfacedesign.com/kfenton/flash/chucks_site/chucks_updated.html

V for Vendetta

So, here's my final animation for the V for Vendetta clip. There's so much more I wish I would have done but after working on it for hours and hours I just don't have will to look at it any more. Enjoy!

Without further adieu--Digital Photography

So, I'm definitely not a good photographer but I really enjoy it. So, I decided to take this digital photography class to get a better grasp on image making. In short, I signed up for this digital photography class as a treat to myself. Little did I know that I would have to sell my soul to the Devil in order to get a little extra time to work on my photos. The pictures I'm posting are a little ridiculous but they were to show technique... not necessarily subject matter. I'm only posting these ones for now because these also happen to be the pictures hanging up in the FAV hallway. Yea! My work has gone from my mom's refrigerator to the hallway in the art building. It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it... Moving on.

This first shot was to show how to use the shadow/highlight filter:

These next 2 images are examples of composite imaging and blending techniques:

This last picture is of my dear, sweet Grandma Peterson. We had to use a posterization effect--gorgeous, overly-used effect but awesome nonetheless. I love this picture but I don't have the heart to show it to my grandma because I'm sure she will HATE it but still grit through her teeth, "Kory, it's beautiful..." Granted, it's not the most flattering but that's what I love about it.

I've lost that branding feeling...

So, I haven't updated very much from my Brand ID class... so here we go-

This first picture is the end result of a logo that we had to design for a fake Greek restaurant called Mythos.

This next logo is for the new department (?) for this grant that was given to USU. It's called IDIAS and they are designing educational games/simulations. This project taught me a very valuable lesson--some people just don't know what the hell they want. This project was so frustrating because the guy in charge had no idea what he actually wanted. To make a long story short, NONE of the logos designed for the project "solved the issue." Here's what I came up with. The first one is the one I turned in but the second one is my revised version. I like both for different reasons.

Last but not least--my most recent project. This time we're designing a logo for the new art studio on campus that's in FAV 102. Naturally, it's called Studio 102. This logo is still "in the works" but here's what I've got so far.

UPDATED 1/10/10

Here's what I finished with on my Studio 102 project.

Animated Typography

So, we have to do an animation for my Graphic Interface Design class based on a 30 second audio clip from a movie. Needless to say, it's kicking my trash. The first part of this assignment was to design a poster that would reflect the overall feeling of the animation. Well, my audio clip is from V for Vendetta and here's what I came up with:

I'm pretty happy with the final result but there are a few things I'll change for the animation. I'll try to keep this up to date during the process

HALLELUJAH!

Thank the good lord! I'm finally done with my HTML site for Graphic Interface Design! It's uploading as I type. I thought I would keep this more up to date during the process but there was much to update... after the design was done, it was just a bunch of busy work.

So, here's some info about the site:

I originally started designing this site for a fake concert venue but changed it to a local venue here in Logan called Whysound. It was much easier using their content instead of making up my own. Luckily, the owner of Whysound was nice enough to let me into the venue and take some pics of the venue for the site. The concert pictures were also taken by me from previous shows that my band had played. Overall, I'm happy with the site because I accomplished what I set out to do. The inspiration for the design of this site was my old Crate GFX212 guitar cab. I wanted it to say "music" without being too cliche... So, I used the curved boxes to give that good ol' "cab feeling" and the background texture was derived from the fabric on the front of my cab. So, hopefully it says "music" without being too lame.

Well, if you're interested in what I've been working on check it out at http://fall09-2.graphicinterfacedesign.com/kfenton/html/whysound/

Here's kinda of what it looks like...

Image Resizing Tutorial

Here is an assignment I had to do for Graphic Interface Design--a tutorial on resizing images in HTML. Check it out if you're interested at all.

Brand ID

So, I've decided to throw some of my Brand Identity stuff up here. We've worked on a few projects: Zoo Animal, My initials, and some band name.

Zoo Animal:

I ended up chucking these sketches... I really liked how they looked when I drew just half the face but it looked awful when I put them together. I thought it looked more like a dog or a bear--see for yourself.

Then I went to this:

My intitials:
I lost my original sketches but here are the ideas I threw around after my sketches. I've put a asterisk next to the ones I like.

Here the final image I turned in:

Band Name:
So this logo has a bit of a funny story. I was racking my somewhat hollow brain with what font/fonts I wanted to use for this but everything I tried seemed too obvious or too lame. For those of you that don't know me, Chucks is my band. I think I was going crazy because this was something too close to home to me and I couldn't narrow down my ideas for the logo. Well, I was bored at work and the only programs I have access to are Word, Excel, and paint. So, I started messing around in Excel and voila! I had my logo. Then I took it into MS Paint to touch it up a bit--yes, you heard me right--Paint. I know it sounds crazy but for what I have to do to get it right, I use Paint. Then into Illustrator to get my vector. The rest is history. Here is the logo.

This is after I've touched it up in Paint:

Here's after Illustrator:

As Promised...

So, here's a start. I'm a little late in doing this... but here are my initial sketches for the website I'm working on for Graphic Interface Design and then products that followed. This originally started as a website for some fake venue but then turned into a website for a local music venue. Fortunately, they nothing about this. Mwah ha ha! (evil laugh) Moving along...

Step 1: My first sketches

Step 2: Bigger sketches

Step 3: Bring on the photoshop! Here are my 3 variations of the website

My favorites were 1 & 3. I've since made some variations to combine elements from the two but that will have to wait for another blog.

By the Wayside

So, we're supposed to keep this blog up to date with the projects we're doing... as you can see, nothing has been done. In fact, I forgot that I even had a blog! So, my goal today is to post some stuff from all three of my studio classes... However, I have some other stuff I need to do first. Don't you worry my sweet blog, I'll come back for you.

Day 1

So, I'm just chilling in my Graphic Interface Design class and I am required to create a blog. I've been putting this off for a couple years mainly because I despise the kind of people that spend their lives living on a website talking about what they should be doing.

Regards,

Kory
